Originally from Noranda, Quebec, Steven Rhude lives and works in the beautiful coastal community of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He received his formal art education at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, Ontario.

Steven is more than a painter of appealing pictures depicting maritime coastal life. He is a visual documentarian in the sense that he approaches his subjects with a desire to understand how they fit into a larger context. The resulting images are immediately accessible and even humorous but have a richer meaning. His paintings pay homage to the daily lives of those who persist in maintaining a rural way of life despite a larger society which is increasingly pervaded by urban values.
