Susan Paterson lives and works in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Trained as a painter and printmaker, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick and has studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art, London, England, and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Inspired by the local landscape and interested in still life, Susan uses her considerable technical skills to produce quiet images infused with warm light. She explains: “ I have always been interested in doing detailed realistic images of the things I see around me... the morning strong warm light, the colours of dusk, and the bright midday sun coming through the trees, casting shadows on the snow. My subject matter comes from the rural landscape of Nova Scotia, room interiors (mostly my home), and my garden.”
