Suezan Aikins

Originally from Montreal, Suezan Aikins lives and works in the small coastal community of Prospect, Nova Scotia. She studied at Mt. Allison University, the Ontario College of Art, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, from which she graduated with a BFA. She has had frequent solo exhibitions of her original woodblock prints and paintings in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan.

In the late 1980s Suezan started to experiment with gold leaf, eventually developing new techniques of mixed media on surfaces covered with 22 and 23K gold leaf. The resulting paintings represent a unique interweaving of Eastern and Western aesthetics.

Suezan’s work has been described as contemplative realism. Inspired by nature, her meditative images evoke the spirit of place and capture transcendent moments.
